Every day, more and more companies are discovering social media marketing as a way to expand their business and make connections with potential clients.

It’s clear now that passing on social media is a bad idea, and companies of all kinds are finding new ways to use it all the time.

Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms are perfect for businesses where images, videos, and conversation are key. Companies are also getting into social media advertising as they discover they have to spend a little to get their posts seen by their followers.

Most companies develop a clear strategy and set clear goals and experience success with their social media marketing strategies. But it appears some of us could still use a little advice on what NOT to do with our social media.

Here some things to avoid with your posts.

1.) Turning Over Control-

Maybe you’re just too busy to run your own social media, so you delegate that responsibility to proxy. That might work great for you. Or it might cause some serious problems.

You always run a certain risk when you let someone else run your company’s social media.

Content can go awry, relationships can get strained, and reputations can suffer. And you get the blame. It’s always a good idea to handle your social media yourself. Be careful who you trust.

2.) Sharing Too Much-

Don’t let your social media just become a dumping ground for other bloggers’ posts and content. Sharing is great, but it can also become a bad habit. A lot of folks get into a sharing rut because they get busy on the job.

Of course you’re busy. Name a successful business professional who isn’t. But take the time to get that original content out, or your social media is just redundant.

3.) Getting Mad-

Don’t feed the trolls. If you get negative comments, or even vulgar or abusive remarks, don’t respond in anger. Turn these threats into opportunities. Respond to negative comments by asking how you can better serve their needs in the future.

Accept that you’re in the big league and you might not make everyone happy. If you respond with snark, you’re making your company look childish. Just be polite, and move on.

4.) Getting Careless-

Not only do you need to keep it in check when dealing with negative comments, be very careful with what you share and post. It only takes one poor decision with a post to bring down a storm of bad publicity.

If you share or post something offensive to ANYONE on your company’s social media outlets, you’re going to pay for it. Internet crusaders can ruin you, no matter how innocent your mistake, so think every post through.

Don’t let a moment of bad judgement kill your company. This is another reason why it’s so important to stay on top of things if you let someone handle your social media for you. Don’t let their bad judgement ruin you, either.

5.) Getting Rigid-

When it comes to social media platforms, everybody can’t be Facebook and Twitter. But it doesn’t hurt to give new platforms a spin. You never know what’s going to be the next big gun of social media.

You might also discover your existing or even new customers on a new outlet. It can’t hurt, and it can really pay off.

6.) Becoming A Bore-

Don’t just put out big blocks of text. You’ve got to include some quality images and video if you want to reach anyone on social media outlets. Attention spans are short.

Keep your followers’ attention with some imagery related to not only your products or services, but also about your niche.
