Twitter is a great social media platform for engaging with a target audience and connecting with your organization’s demographic.

Whether you are brand new to using the social platform or a seasoned tweeter, you’d still like to spread your content to a wider audience, right?

Here are a few tips for getting more followers on Twitter:

1. Fill out your profile information completely

If your Twitter profile has an egg where the photo should be and lacks information about you, take the time to fill it out.

Always include a picture, fill out the bio completely, and have an interesting background image

By filling out you profile completely you will let other Twitter users will get an idea of who you are and what to expect from your tweets. If your profile is blank or sparse, they won’t get to know you and likely won’t follow.

Also, consider writing your bio in first person. This way, it sounds like you are actually talking about yourself. 3rd-person bios create the feeling of arrogance and can be off-putting with the casual atmosphere of Twitter.

2. Don’t automate

Twitter isn’t about just spewing information out into the social media realm. It’s fine to use some scheduling features such as Hootsuite to maximize your time and efficiency, but make sure you are giving your Twitter stream a personal touch and mixing in plenty of fresh tweets.

This will attract other real users with a genuine interest in what you are saying. Also, be careful using auto-DM’s and follow backs. These can backfire on you because while it might seem like a good idea to save time, they can connect you with other users you have no desire to connect with.

3. Share Valuable Content

Share valuable content. This is definitely the most important piece of the puzzle. Point people to helpful resources. Proivde relavant commentaty. Give compliments. Be inspiring. Use lots of links. Create content that other people will get excited about and want to share on to their own followers. This is the key to getting retweeted and inturn capturing a wider audience (ie: more follwers).

4. Post often, but not too often.

You want to post often enough to get noticed but not too often to where you are annoying. Post at least once each day but not more than ten times.

5. Find your voice

Twitter is a direct way to connect with your audience. If you find your voice on Twitter, you’ll be more likely to attract like-minded users. Let your personality shine through. If you are funny in real life, tweet about funny things. If you are sarcastic, find that quippy aspect on social media as well.

At the end of the day, Twitter is a great way to connect and get your brand out there. Create and share amazing content to keep the flow going, and get more followers for your brand.
